about

Our DJ friend Todd Zeppelin wrote this in honor of his friend, of all aliens, the queen of the universe herself. He sent it to us in the hopes of it getting recorded for a single, and that's exactly what did. The end result sounds like a cross between Schoolhouse Rock and Roger McGuinn. (We've been listing to a lot of that stuff lately.) We hope her majesty enjoys the song.
(FYI, her name is pronounced /j/ă+nĕ+tay)

lyrics

There goes J’nette
Queen of the Universe
When she comes, get out of the way
Don’t you make her go in reverse
Or it’s gonna get worse

The world we know gets bigger every day
In the center of it all, there lives J’nette
In a big red throne with a hot cup of tea
She’s there looking down on you and on me
She’s the first to exist and the last to go come what may

Now the time has come
To break from her shell
Tired of looking through her scepter
While life rolls on
She’s going outside
Won’t be back for a while
All the servants that serve her
Are surprised to find that
She’s gone! She’s gone!
She’s gone! She’s gone!

Well on her way, gonna find some action tonight
Whatever the Cartwheel does not have, the Milky Way might
Then suddenly J’nette’s thoughts were disturbed
By a hot-rodding smartass, how very absurd
That bad naughty alien picked the wrong lady to fight!

But “Oh no
You can’t catch me
While I drown your rock and roll music
Out with Rachmaninoff”
“Well guess what”
Says J’nette
“You’re getting on my nerves
So why don’t you just
Step off! Step off!
Step off! Step off!”

A queen is never exhausted
She’s just never been this far from home before
But there’s a ball that she’s been invited to
Celebrating the end of a strange, under-the-radar war
To J’nette, the location seemed somewhat obscure
As the planet she was sent to was a planet no more
And the parking lot was empty
As was the dancing floor

Surprise surprise
The party’s not there
Just a note hanging on the door
Held up by a spork

Sorry for making you
Come so far
Let me be frank
The real place where the action’s at is
New York! New York!
New York! New York!
New York! New York!
New York! New York!
